CBN, known fully as cannabinol, is a mildly intoxicating cannabinoid formed through the natural oxidation and breakdown of THC when cannabis flower gets exposed to oxygen during prolonged storage or as it ages. Unlike its precursor THC, CBN induces only mild psychoactive effects coupled with a wider array of promising therapeutic properties. Early research indicates CBN functions as an antibacterial agent, anti-inflammatory, appetite stimulant, and neuroprotectant with additional sedative qualities. Preclinical tests also show it effectively kills MRSA and may inhibit keratinocyte proliferation in psoriasis. The combination of these effects make CBN a prime target for future scientific research into harnessing its capabilities for treating glaucoma, neurodegenerative conditions, nausea, eating disorders, insomnia, and skin conditions.
