Deep water culture is an hydroponic method of cultivating cannabis where roots remain permanently submerged in an aerated, nutrient-rich solution. This differs from standard hydroponics where roots periodically get flooded then drained.
Deep water culture requires large reservoirs that continuously bathe roots in the oxygenated, fertilized water. Air pumps or other devices oxygenate the solution to prevent diseases that thrive in stagnant conditions. Having continuous access to ample nutrients and water helps plants grow quickly with fewer obstacles for the roots.
Maintaining ideal pH, nutrient levels, and oxygenation takes diligence. But deep water culture can significantly boost growth rates and yields compared to growing cannabis in a traditional medium like soil or coco coir. The constant moisture also minimizes drought stress.
