Pollen refers to the fine yellow powder produced in the pollen sacs located on male cannabis plants. At maturity, clouds of pollen grains release through the air and pollinate female plants. This fertilization leads the formerly seedless female flowers to grow fertilized seeds carrying genetic material from both parents.

Growers aiming to harvest unpollinated sinsemilla buds with high THC take great pains to isolate female plants from males once flowering begins. However, collected pollen can also be carefully stored and applied to selectively pollinate female buds when intentionally breeding new hybrid strains.

Whether considered pest or tool, clouds of airborne cannabis pollen signify male plants nearing peak maturity and readiness to reproduce. Growers must remain vigilant to avoid accidentally pollinating their crop and ruining seedless flower potency.
