QP stands for a quarter pound, which equals 4 ounces or 112 grams of cannabis flower. After ounces, quarter pounds represent one of the largest standard units of weight in which cannabis flower is sold on the wholesale black market. For comparison, a full pound is 16 ounces or 448 grams. QP sits one level below pounds in overall weight and value. Prices can range dramatically based on quality, demand, and location, but generally fall between $300-$700 per QP on average. In legal markets, purchases are usually limited to single ounces or smaller amounts. Rarely can someone walk into a dispensary and buy a full QP.

Laws intend to deter black market diversion and trafficking. So outside medical grows, acquiring QPs requires underground access outside of the licensed market. Bulk discounted QPs were common in the days of underground weed dealing, allowing people to buy larger quantities for less. But legalization has disrupted this model. Now regulated markets aim to prevent mass distribution of cannabis. So consumers wanting to purchase QPs or other bulk amounts must find a plug rather than a dispensary. Whether buying from the illicit market or licensed growers, access to QPs allows regular consumers to buy in bulk at lower cost over time.
