Taffy

Taffy refers to a distinctive form of hydrocarbon cannabis extract concentrate with a malleable, chewy and pliable texture highly reminiscent of saltwater taffy candy or traditional hashish. Through controlled agitation and slow whipping or folding of certain partially purged extraction products at warm temperatures approaching but not exceeding 110°F, the original viscous oils transform into the signature softened, clay-like and easy-to-handle taffy consistency in the final stages of the thermo-mechanical purging process. The addition of minimal heat within confined parameters helps further bind and fully homogenize the semi-stable matrix into the finished pliable, doughy, tacky form resembling chewed candy. The consistency of well-made taffy makes it fun and extremely easy to handle and dose for dabbing compared to glassy shatter that becomes too stiff and breaks apart. Properly purged taffy also helps retain exceptional terpene content and aromatic qualities far superior to shatter, which tends to sugar up and lose volatility much more readily through nucleation. While authentic cannabis taffy often starts its life as expertly processed fresh-frozen live rosin, growers and extractors have also managed to achieve the ideal texture and workability mimicking taffy through whipping and infusing small amounts of oxygen when handling certain BHO hydrocarbon extracts in the finishing stages prior to completion.
