Bisabolol is a naturally occurring monoterpene found in small quantities in some cannabis chemovars as well as more abundantly in plants such as German chamomile. This terpene emits a mildly sweet, floral, tropical aroma reminiscent of chamomile or vanilla. Bisabolol is often sustainably extracted from chamomile and candeia trees for use in cosmetics and skincare products. Bisabolol is popular as an ingredient in lotions, serums, and beauty products partially due to its purported skin-healing benefits and anti-inflammatory properties when applied topically. Cannabis strains expressing significant bisabolol content may impart relaxing, anxiolytic effects in addition to a pleasant floral scent when vaporized or smoked. Research indicates bisabolol may help heal wounds, reduce inflammation, fight bacteria, and provide antioxidant effects. However more rigorous clinical trials on humans are still needed to confirm medical efficacy and safety using concentrated bisabolol formulations.
