Nerolidol

Nerolidol is an aromatic terpene commonly found in jasmine, tea tree, lemongrass and some cannabis varietals. It has a delicate floral scent with notes of rose, citrus and apple. In addition to its use as a fragrance additive, nerolidol has shown promising therapeutic potential as a sleep aid, anti-anxiety agent, anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and pain reliever. It may also have insect repellent properties. Nerolidol acts on the GABA receptors in the brain which play a role in reducing excitability and regulating sleep, mood and anxiety. Animal studies indicate it has a sedative effect that increases non-REM sleep. Its anti-microbial effects may help fight harmful bacteria and fungi. As an antioxidant, it protects cells from damage caused by free radicals. Nerolidol also demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties that may relieve certain types of pain. For maximum nerolidol content, look for cannabis products testing high in it, such as Island Sweet Skunk, Jack Herer and Skywalker OG strains.
